Nes Lemdina Project
“Ness Lemdina” is a documentation project, capturing the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the old medina in Sfax, Tunisia. Preserving the traditional skills, dialect, and stories of the artisans is crucial for safeguarding cultural heritage and passing down valuable knowledge to future generations. More than 40 videos interviews provide a powerful medium to capture the essence of these artisans’ experiences and skills.
Through this project, we create a series of video documentaries that not only showcase the intricacies of old handicraft skills but also provide a glimpse into the cultural fabric of the community. By documenting the artisans’ stories and traditions, we are trying tp contribute to the preservation of a unique way of life that might otherwise fade away with time.
The main goals of this project are:
Thorough Research: Conduct in-depth research about the artisans, their crafts, the history of the medina, and the cultural significance of their work.
Respect and Sensitivity: Approach the artisans with respect for their craft and their personal histories. Building trust and rapport is essential for capturing genuine and heartfelt stories.
Archiving and Preservation: Ensure that the recorded interviews and documentaries are archived properly. Mainly by sharing them in all social media platforms.
Language Preservation: Given the focus on the old dialect, which is diseappearing slowly by the time.
Promoting the medina of Sfax: Supporting the social efforts to subscribe the medina of sfax in UNESCO world heritage.
